The Giving Tree initiative was launched in 2014 and has been raising money to support high school student scholarships. As a result of this we are now able to offer two brand new scholarship categories: One for students talented and engaged in The Arts, and one for students with a passion for Sustainability. Click here for more details.
In 2017 & 2018 CIS focused fundraising on a yearly Gala Ball, with funds being used for more specific goals: in 2017, money raised was used to enhance CIS arts (including the purchasing of a concert grand piano, expanding orchestral instruments, visiting artists, mural project).
The Middle School Greenhouse
In 2018, money raised is been allocated to sustainability programs (including greenhouse set-up equipment, plants, and greening initiatives).

Research into our community giving history has shown that many people like to choose how their money is used, which has led to the development of our new initiative. For the remainder of the academic year 2018/2019, we are therefore launching our expanded Giving Tree Annual Fund, and would like to invite all our community members to contribute to one or more areas of interest. This year’s Giving Tree Annual Fund will support several philanthropic goals. You may direct your donation to one of following:
- Community Scholarships
Donations will enable a more diverse range of students to experience a CIS education
- Program Enhancements
Donations will go to enhance student experience and further learning. This year, the following areas have been chosen:
Arts - funding for musical instruments and visiting artists
Sports - funding for early years equipment and athletics uniforms
- Unrestricted Donation
Donations will be directed to whichever project is deemed to be most in need
As you may know, CIS is registered as a charitable organization in Denmark. This is financially advantageous to the school in a number of ways. To retain this status, the school needs to be able to verify receipt of donations of DKK 200 or more from a minimum of 100 individuals/CPR numbers (adults and/or children) every calendar year, i.e. before the end of December 2018.
We are deeply grateful for the commitment and sacrifice you make to support CIS and education for your children. We are aware that many organizations rely on personal donations and that you are all probably asked each week to give generously. We hope you will consider supporting CIS and the Giving Tree fund with a gift of whatever size you are able. Every gift will be used to enhance, enrich and expand the already world class education that CIS offers.
- Q: What are the projects the Annual Fund will help support this year?
- Q: Why does CIS need money in addition to its tuition and fees?
- Q: Why should I give to the CIS Giving tree Annual Fund?
- Q: Can I get tax benefits from my donation?
- Q: I’ve donated before, so why should I support again this year’s Annual Fund?
- Q: We are leaving soon so why should I donate?
- Q: I volunteer with the PTA - Why should I also support the Giving tree Annual Fund?
- Q: As a family, we already give to other charities that need the money more.
CIS is a non-profit organization and school fees cover the cost of staffing, facilities, and buying many supplies. In order to keep tuition fees as low as possible whilst continuing to offer our students special enhancements to their educational experiences, CIS relies on additional income sources, one of which being donations to the CIS Giving tree Annual Fund.
Tuition fees enable us to sustain the school’s core programmes. However, in order to make improvements and to implement new approaches to teaching and learning additional support is required.
Giving to CIS allows you to share in the responsibility of supporting our students, their education and the world that they will inherit in the future and your tax-deductible gift can make a difference. Community-wide participation is important. It sends a strong message to external entities (government, corporations, foundations etc) that our community values and supports CIS and believes in the role is is playing to inspire, challenge and actively supports our students and each other to become positive participants in our changing world.
Tax is deductible for Danish tax payers on donations up to DKK 15,000 (under LL§8A status).
Tax is deductible for US tax payers on donations to the CIS US Foundation (under 501(c)(3) status). For tax deductible gifts you will be asked to supply your name and, for Danish residents, your CPR number, in order for your donation to be registered with the tax authorities at the end of the year.
For more details on tax deduction please contact the CIS Business Office
Dependent on donors specific wishes, donations to the Giving Tree Annual Fund will be put to immediate use to enhance programs in the current academic year. By donating, you are part of a cycle of giving - current students are benefiting from those families, staff and community members who gave generously in past years and by making a donation you are helping to keep the cycle alive.
Giving has long been a tradition within our CIS community. Countless volunteer hours support all our programs; hosting student athletes, chaperoning weekly swim lessons, supporting arts events, acting as mystery readers within the classrooms and of course the tireless efforts of our PTA, our Board of Trustees and most importantly our dedicated staff. CIS values all who donate their time to make our community richer. But the CIS Giving Tree Annual Fund is an opportunity for our entire community to come together to give the gift of additional financialsupport. Just as many school activities would not be possible without volunteers, certain enhancements to your child’s education could not happen without financial donations. Both kinds of support are crucial.
We are aware that many organizations rely on personal donations and that you are all probably asked each week to give generously. We hope that our families also make their children’s cool a high philanthropic priority. All donations to the Giving tree Annual Fund will benefit your own children as well as those who will follow them in the years to come. Please help us now!
