Occupational Therapy

Meet the Occupational Therapist

My name is Birgitte Vesterholm, certified pediatric Occupational Therapist. For the past 12 years I have been working with children aged 0-18 with cerebral palsy, learning difficulties, DCD/dyspraxia, and other needs. I have worked in children's hospitals and special kindergartens. In 2010 I started a full-time private practice. I am now very pleased to also provide OT services to students at CIS!

About School-Based Occupational Therapy

School-based occupational therapy is designed to enhance the student's ability to function and be successful in school. This might include:

  • working on developing the social sensitivity necessary to forming and sustaining social interaction and relationships with peers
  • handwriting/fine motor skills or visual-perception skills so the child can complete written assignments
  • helping the child organize himself or herself in the environment to maximize classroom participation and educational experiences
  • working with the teacher to adapt learning materials to facilitate successful participation
  • addressing sensory issues by finding strategies to keep the child's arousal level functional during school and/or making changes to the classroom environment to allow for sensory needs of the child
The OT sessions

The occupational therapy and sensory integration sessions take place at CIS during school hours. The 45 minute sessions are one-on-one. Parents accompany their child to the first OT session. Depending on the needs of the child, the OT might consult with the teachers, write reports and recommendations, and/or attend CST meetings. Fee per hour: 700 DKK
